Is this service part of the official project of TOR or JonDonym?
No, it is not. This service only relies on TOR and JonDonym for anonymizing. You can reach the official site of TOR at tor.eff.org. You'll find JonDonym at jondos.de.
How does this service work?
If you are connecting to a server directly (e.g. for browsing a website), you have to give it your IP to establish the connection. By using this service, Tor-Proxy.NET will connect to the server for you, and then give the content back to you over a SSL-secured channel. That way, you do not have to establish a direct connection to the server. That's why you don't reveal your IP.
But that is not the only advantage. Most webpages are not accessible by a secured channel. So everyone who can sniff on your traffic (e.g. your network-administrator, your ISP and your government) can clearly see which webpages you are visiting! If you use this service, content will be transfered over an SSL-secured channel. That's why nobody sitting between you and us will be able to spy on this connection!
But if somebody would sniff the traffic of this server, he would see which people were using this service. Also he could see which content the server is accessing from the web. That's why he probably could guess which user is getting which content. To prevent this, we are not getting the content directly for you. If you access a webpage with our service, we forward your request to the TOR-Network or to JonDonym, which will get the content, give it back to us, and we give it back to you!

If you want to know some more about TOR, take a look at the TOR-FAQ. If you want to know some more about JonDonym, look here.
If you are using TOR and JonDonym, why should I not use it directly?
You should, because there are some advantages! But there are a lot of people who are accessing the Internet and can not install TOR or JonDonym for different reasons. Probably they do not have full access to there computer, or there firewall blocks connection to TOR and JonDonym. Also, the software could be forbidden in some countries, or people fail to install TOR and JonDonym. If you want to install TOR for yourself, visit the TOR-Webpage, to get the client or the website of JonDos to get the JonDonym-Client.
If I use TOR or JonDonym directly - where are the advantages?
At first you have to trust me, because I could log what you are doing. I'm not doing so, but you should know that this is possible.
If you are using TOR or JonDonym directly, this is impossible.
If you want to know why it is like it is, take a look at this article at Wikipedia.
In the end, there is an operational agreement between JonDos and their mix-operators, which forces them to provide a high level of privacy.
How does your service helps against censorship?
Censorship can be done in two different ways. You could block access to some servers, or you could analyse and block content. Because if you are using this service, you are not contacting servers directly, first way will not work. The TOR-Network has exits in many different countrys, and surely there will be an exit, which has access to the webpage you want to visit.
JonDonym has less servers, from which (the free ones) are mostly in Germany. Thats why JonDonym will not allow you to bypass censorship at all times.
The second way to do censorship is by analysing the content which is transferred to you and block some things. This way will not work, because you the connection between you and us is secured, and can't be analysed.
Hidden Services are what the name says: Hidden Services. The TOR-Network makes it possible to set up a service (e.g. Webpage, IRC, Mailserver) which are only reachable from the TOR-Network. So there is no way to identify where this service comes from, and gives you the possibility to make content accessible by others without revealing the source of the content. eepSites are the same for the I2P-network.
From this service you can access these Hidden Services. Tor-Proxy.NET acts like a bridge between you and the HiddenService.
To test it out you can visit the hidden wiki, which is a
portal for all things about onion-sites (TOR), or Torgle, which is a search-engine for onion-sites.
The most important eepSite is the i2p-forum which can be found at forum.i2p2.de, and also as an eepSite at forum.i2p.
Is your service completely safe?
No service in the world could be completely safe. (Also not the ones who tell you so!) This service could be infiltrated by hackers or government. Also there could be some weaknesses in the TOR-Architecture. But it is safer than not using this service.
What can I do, to increase anonymity?
Bad JavaScript and Flash can reveal your real identity, also if you are using this service. That's why you should turn it off. If you are using Firefox, you may want to install NoScript.
Page XY doesn't work (right). Why?
Some Websites need Cookies and/or JavaScript to work. You can activate this by deselecting the checkboxes.
Anyway some pages which need JavaScript won't work at all. This is because JavaScript is a big risk for anonymity. If JavaScript is interpreted on client-side (on your Computer), it can easily read out your real IP and bypass every anonymization! That's why JavaScript is interpreted on server-side. Sadly this doesn't work with all websites.
How can I see, that it works?
If you are using TOR or JonDonym, you have a little link at the top, called Test. If you click on it, your IP will be displayed and should differ from your real one.
Why is this service better than other ones?
First it is free. This does not only safe your money, but prevents you from leaving money-traces to the one service-provider. Second there are many services which do not safe the connection to there users, or are accessing the web on their own, which causes the weaknesses mentioned above.
Are you spying on my connections?
Of course not! But you should know, that theoretically I could do so (like any other webservice offering you anonymity).
There is a warning about your server-certificate. Why?
That can happen for two reasons. First you probably have called https://www.tor-proxy.net instead of https://tor-proxy.net. But most time it happens, because you do not trust the authority which signed this certificate. Thatfor you have to import the root-certificate. If you want to do that now, click on the button below.
I am visiting a secure Website ( https:// ) with your service, and the Fingerprint is wrong!
If you are accessing a webpage through this service, connection is done between the server of the webpage you want to visit, and this server. Thats why the secured connection is established between this two servers, and not between you and the server of the webpage. Anyhow the content will not be readable when it is transferred to you, because the connection between you and this service is also secured. But it uses a different key than the website you like to visit. Thats why the fingerprints differ.
But be aware, that we theoretical could spy on the content if we want to. Of course we will never do so! But you should know that it is possible, and that is why you should not transfer high sensitive data over this service (for example credit card or online-banking PIN and TAN).
Is this service free?
Yes, this service is completly free!
Will this service keep free forever?
Yes, it will do so. This service is a gift to you, the TOR-Network and the network of JonDonym. It uses the ressources of other people, who are running TOR-Nodes or JonDonym-cascades and pay them with their own money. It would not be okay, to earn money with the ressources of other people.
That is why this service is not only accessing the TOR-network or JonDonym-network as a client, but also acting as a high-speed-TOR-node (called: GrossATuin) and an entry point for JonDonym to give something back!
How can I support you?
You want to support me? Thanks! Currently there are three different ways of doing this:
- First, you could tell your friends about this service.
- Second, you can help me to translate this page into different languages. To do so, translate the Main-Page and as much as you like to of the rest. Of course you will be mentioned if you like to!
- Third, you can send me a postcard from your location to show your support. I really would like to get postcards from all over the world! You can find my address at the Imprint
